Invaders Internet explorer 6 must die

March 23rd, 2010 by Mark · 3 Comments

Repeat after me:

while (1) {
System.out.println("Internet explorer 6 must die");
}

Why is internet explorer so ubiquitous across all NHS organisations?

I’m currently fighting CSS, javascript and graphics transparency problems…. ARRRRGHHHHHHH!

    I have to admit, I’m hoping the powers-that-be wait a little while.

    IE8 is significantly better than IE7 with respect to web standards, CSS support, etc, etc. The longer it takes them to make a decision, the more IE8 will come to prominence, and the more likely it will be that the NHS will jump straight to this version, rather than ‘playing safe’ with IE7.

    Also, playing devil’s advocate, since IE6 has been around for so long, there are solutions to most CSS and transparency problems now?

    Old post I know BUT, it’s because the ‘roll out’ disk image that is installed on all machines has WinXP, Office 2007, and default IE6.

    You can’t expect IT managers in the ‘service to actually rebuild an image every 12 months when MS releases a new version of IE do you?? Reimage a HDD every 12 months!? Who does that?

    I am going to write a script that we should put on our sites.

    If the site is accessed via ie6 then it will trigger a media query that loads a separate page of html with an option to send a strongly worded email to the Rt Hon Jeremy Hunt MP!
